Fun and original, this is patchwork.

' Patchwork' is a sewing method that involves sewing small pieces of fabric into a larger design. The larger design is usually based on repeating patterns built with different forms of fabric, which can be of different colors, shapes, and prints.

These shapes are carefully measured and cut, into basic geometric shapes that make them easy to put together.

Surely you have never thought about when this technique began, and what is the origin... We will tell you a little about this very special method!

The history of patchwork goes back a long way, vestiges have been found in Ancient Egypt, and pieces of almost 5,000 years old have been found in China. The patchwork technique as we know it today arose at the end of the 18th century, a product of need and poverty.

At that time many Europeans, especially English and Dutch, had emigrated to the United States , the resources available to them were very scarce, so women began to use the pieces of cloth that were usable from the garments to keep warm. that were already old, and they sewed them together, to make blankets and rugs .

In the middle of the 19th century, the textile industry began to develop, and in the United States that work that had emerged almost a century before, began to transform into an art, different techniques and geometric figures emerged that represent their way of life and the environment. That surrounds them.

In Spain , specifically in the region of La Rioja , we find in Las Almazuelas, the Hispanic equivalent to Patchwork. In the small town of Villoslada de Cameros in La Rioja, the Association of Artisan Women of La Almazuela has a workshop where exhibitions and courses on this method of weaving are organized.

At Tutto Piccolo , we love the patchwork technique and this SS23 season we are committed to uniting different prints from past collections that we love to design and produce a collection with unique and very special garments.
